New Website is up!

One day before April and the new website is up. There are still a few details to finish, including adding more photos to some portfolios, plus some descriptive text to provide a little background about the photos. Please check out my wedding and portrait photography at the new site.
This is a photo of Sophie, at about age 2. It's part of series of photos taken of Sophie during a one-year period, which were then used to create a hard-cover photo album. It's a great way to capture those special memories of your kids growing up too fast!

New DCharles site coming soon!

Just wanted to let you know we've been working hard on our new DCharles site. It should be up in early April, if not sooner. Until then, have a great spring. This is Hudson, our lab. He's about 80# now, but a puppy just a short time ago when this photo was taken. He still thinks he's a lap dog though. They sure grow fast don't they!

Santa/Pet Pics

We hosted the 2nd annual Santa/Pet Pics this December with a few of my friends, two and four legged. In lieu of a session fee, we collected groceries for the local food shelf with the participants being very generous. This year was highlighted by a Hurdling Hedgehog and a Singing Sheltie, but not to be out done by an English Bulldog. All the participants were very well behaved and we look forward to a bigger and better 2010 session. Special thanks to Santa for another job well done, of course. DCharles Photography

Julie & John

It was another chilly November day but Julie and John's spirits were soaring, of course. Julie even asked for some of the evening outdoor images at the St. Paul Hotel, even though the temps hovered around 20 or so. From the hotel, we traveled via trolley to Como for the ceremony and then back to the St. Paul for the reception.  To see more wedding photography go to DCharles Photography.

Carrie & Jesse

29 degrees with snow flurries and winds reaching 20mph. Carrie and Jesse had a great attitude and didn't let the weather stop them from enjoying their day. We started out at Como, then went on a photo safari, via limo, to the Guthrie and Mill City Museum. On the way back we hit Como once more for the bridge scene and to frolic in the snow flurries. A spirited group they were.... which made for some memorable scenes. Good luck you guys. DCharles Photography.

Glass plate negative from 1800's

My friend bought a bunch of these glass plate negatives at Ax-Man Surplus. Dry glass plate negatives were widely used between 1880 and 1920 when the new technology of gelatin silver negatives became available on roll film. I have included both the negative and positive for comparison. These glass plates were taken on an 8x10 camera, in which the image is viewed up side down and backwards, and notice the photographer would sometimes take two images per glass plate. No immediate digital feedback with this process. Check out the style, I love the veil and accents, plus the flowers were enormous.  Go to DCharles Photography to see contemporary wedding photography.
